Paid Internship Municipal Building Commission Archvist

INTERNSHIP POSITION INFORMATION
The Municipal Building Commission (MBC) is an organization that maintains the Minneapolis City Hall / Hennepin County Courthouse, located in downtown Minneapolis. The MBC is interested in hiring an archivist for the following tasks.

TASKS

*MBC Archive organization – Label and organize drawings, binders and building materials; and update archive catalog. Carefully purge items that are no longer needed. As a part of the upcoming renovation project, this person will organize the move from the existing archive room to the new room.
*MBC Archive Guide update – Review and update archive guide with the goal of improving the archiving process.
*MBC Drawing and Project file organization in Room 105 – Label and organize drawings and project files in Room 105. Move items to archive when they are no longer being used on a regular basis.
*Board Memo Database Project - Develop electronic database for MBC Board Memos that can be searched chronologically and by subject.
* Other Projects as assigned - Complete other tasks and projects as assigned by MBC Administration staff.


QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates should be studying in the St. Catherine’s University in the Library and Information Science Master’s degree program. We are looking for a candidate who enjoys organizing and working with historic materials. The MBC has archived many of its materials and developed a guide for archiving, but we are looking for a candidate who can bring our program to the next level and help us complete the unfinished work. Contract will be contingent on successful completion of a background investigation conducted by Minneapolis Police and Hennepin County Sheriff.


SCHEDULE / TERM
The intern may work a flexible schedule of between 10 to 20 hours per week depending on availability. The archivist will be responsible for developing a schedule in advance and then managing the schedule to complete the project.


COMPENSATION
The intern will be paid using a Professional Services Contract. As a contractor, the intern will not be eligible for employee benefits. Compensation commensurate with experience (Range of $17 -- $20.00/hr.) Expenses incurred in performance of duties must be pre-approved but are reimbursable.
