James J. Hill Center Front Desk Volunteer Opportunity

Volunteer Opportunity:
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help staff our front desk and welcome patrons. The ideal candidate is reliable, personable, detail-oriented, and passionate about customer service and library services experience.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 Greeting and directing incoming visitors.
 Answering and transferring calls on a multi-line phone system.
 Recording visitor traffic with a user-friendly web form.
 Completing special projects related to library and mission-related organizational activities.

Schedule/Hours:
The library is open from 10 AM to 5 PM Monday through Thursday. We’re especially hoping to cover open times between 11 AM and 2 PM Monday through Thursday, and are looking for volunteers who able to keep a consistent schedule each week and stay for at least 2 hours at a time. Hours range from 8-20 hours a week, depending on applicant’s availability and coordination with other volunteers and library staff.
Desired Experience:

 Interest in libraries and the James J. Hill Center’s mission.
 Proven experience working with the public.
 Ability to use a sophisticated phone system.
 Knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
 A positive attitude and welcoming presence.

We offer individualized services at each stage of business development: exploration, launch, growth, management, and maturation. In addition, we have partnered with other cultural organizations to host concerts, book readings, lectures, and art exhibits.
