University Library Residency Program, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Position Available: The expected start date is August 1, 2017. This is a 100%, twelve-month, non-tenure-system appointment for two years. Extended appointments will NOT be available.

Responsibilities:

The University Library Residency Program offers an entry-level librarian an opportunity to further their training and begin an exciting career in academic librarianship. The program supports the Library’s and the University’s commitment to achieving a culturally diverse faculty and provides the opportunity for a Resident to experience, over two years an area of librarianship and to develop a specialization.

The holistic experience, including professional travel and assigned time for scholarship, will give the Resident a competitive advantage in the search for a successive professional position.

The Resident will have the opportunity to serve in one or two functional areas, determined mutually by the Resident’s interests and the needs of the Libraries, and attend and become engaged in professional committees and organizations. In the second year, the Resident will also formulate the basis for a capstone project.

Calls for positions went out to the University Library with a deadline for position descriptions of January 31, 2016.

The Executive Committee of the Library will review applications and determine which positions will be offered by mid-February, with the goal of listing exact positions and descriptions by March 1, 2017. The Dean has committed to funding 4 positions for this first round of applications, so a minimum of 4 positions will be posted.
