The ALISE Board of Directors issues the following statement regarding the recent executive presidential order banning entry of citizens of selected countries into the United States. 



"In light of the recent U.S. presidential executive order banning entry of citizens from several Muslim-majority nations into the United States, the Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) reiterates its unwavering support for diversity and international perspectives in the education and representation of library and information professionals in the United States, regardless of country of origin. Workshops for Graduate Students


The O’Neill Center for Academic Development and the St. Catherine University Libraries announce our Spring 2017 workshops for Graduate students. The dates and topics of workshops are listed below. Students in all graduate programs are being notified by email from the GSAB.

All of these workshops are face-to-face on the St. Paul campus. While we do not currently have equivalent tutorials for online and distance students, an APA research guide (under construction) will link to similar online content that may interest you.

REFORMA National Scholarships

Applications are now being accepted for the REFORMA Scholarship and the Rose Treviño Memorial Scholarship.
 
Any current or newly entering graduate library school student [M.L.S. or Ph.D.] may apply for these $1,500 maximum scholarships. The applicant must provide proof of enrollment to an ALA-accredited library school. Full-time status is not a requirement. The scholarships are not restricted by age, sex, creed, national origin, or minority group/association membership.
 
The REFORMA scholarship is open to students who are Spanish-speakers or interested in serving Latinos or the Spanish-speaking.  The Rose Treviño Memorial Scholarship is for those pursuing a degree in children's or young adult librarianship and are Spanish-speakers or interested in serving Latinos or the Spanish-speaking.
 
Application deadline is March 15, 2017

University Library Residency Program, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Position Available: The expected start date is August 1, 2017. This is a 100%, twelve-month, non-tenure-system appointment for two years. Extended appointments will NOT be available.

Responsibilities:

The University Library Residency Program offers an entry-level librarian an opportunity to further their training and begin an exciting career in academic librarianship. The program supports the Library’s and the University’s commitment to achieving a culturally diverse faculty and provides the opportunity for a Resident to experience, over two years an area of librarianship and to develop a specialization.

The holistic experience, including professional travel and assigned time for scholarship, will give the Resident a competitive advantage in the search for a successive professional position.

The Resident will have the opportunity to serve in one or two functional areas, determined mutually by the Resident’s interests and the needs of the Libraries, and attend and become engaged in professional committees and organizations. In the second year, the Resident will also formulate the basis for a capstone project.

Calls for positions went out to the University Library with a deadline for position descriptions of January 31, 2016.

The Executive Committee of the Library will review applications and determine which positions will be offered by mid-February, with the goal of listing exact positions and descriptions by March 1, 2017. The Dean has committed to funding 4 positions for this first round of applications, so a minimum of 4 positions will be posted.

Media Center Specialist needed in Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton Public Schools!

Under the direction of the Building Principal, the Library Media Specialist is responsible for planning, administering and implementing the operations, procedures and routines of the media center. While specific duties and responsibilities will vary from building to building, the Media Center Specialist performs such tasks as managing and purchasing the collection of media materials, technology and equipment; teachers media literacy in print, digital and multimedia formats; collaborates and works with instructional staff in locating online and digital resources, books and materials to support the curriculum and/or co-teaching or collaborating on special student projects; coordinates and/or participates in the cataloging, classifying, and circulation of media materials; provides instructional, assistance and support in the use of technology, software, tools, and equipment within the media center. Develops and builds an effective media center website with links to media center learning (ie: research website, writing basics, etc…).

Archie Motley Memorial Scholarship Applications

Midwest Archives Conference (MAC) is accepting applications for 2017.
Archie Motley Memorial Scholarship for Minority Students (http://www.midwestarchives.org/motley). The scholarship is designed to provide financial assistance to minority students pursuing graduate education in archival administration and to encourage ethnic diversification of the MAC membership and of the archival profession as a whole. Longwood Gardens Library and Archives Internship

MLS (or equivalent) student or recent graduate to gain experience in the operations and management of a special library and institutional archives.

Interns work in each section of the unit—Library, Digital Gallery, and Archives—to develop projects aimed at furthering the professional interests of the student while working to achieve unit strategic goals. This is a full-time, 12-month position.
The program is open to current college students and individuals who have graduated within the past year and are legally able to work in the United States. All interns must have a valid driver's license. International students may visit Longwood's International Internship and Training Program.
Completed applications must be received by February 1 for May and June start dates and by May 1 for September start date.
