Oakdale Library Internship Spring 2017

Gain real-world experience at Oakdale Branch, Washington County Library.  The Twin Cities library job market is one of the most competitive in the country.  Distinguish yourself from your peers with practical experience in this progressive suburban public library system.

Duration: 90 hours or as needed for school requirements. Scheduled for Winter / Spring 2017
Work Schedule: Flexible, upon needs of intern
Location: Oakdale Library
Site Coordinators: Martha Riel and Natalie Eierman

Intern will be involved with daily library operations at the Information Desk, including answering reference questions, helping patrons with technology, and providing readers’ advisory. During after-school hours, the Oakdale Library serves a large number of middle school students and the Intern will help library staff manage their behavior. In addition to day-to-day operations, the Intern will work on a few longer-term projects, which we will determine based on the Intern’s interests and skills. Possible projects include collection management, program planning, and outreach. Depending on scheduling, the Intern will attend the meetings of relevant teams, such as the Adult Services Team, the Youth Services Team, or the Social Media Team. The internship includes evening and Saturday hours.
