Instructional Design Librarian, Southwest Minnesota State University

The McFarland Library at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, MN, invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track Instructional Design Librarian. For position information including the complete list of qualifications and application instructions, please visit    



This new position serves a dual role as a librarian supporting faculty and students through library instruction and research services as well as supporting university faculty as an instructional design specialist. The successful candidate will support students and faculty as a reference and instruction librarian and provide one-on-one professional and consulting services to faculty in the design and development of hybrid and fully online courses.


Required Qualifications:

·         Master’s degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA accredited program.

·         Experience in Education Technology, Instructional Design, Education or related field.

·         Strong verbal and written communication skills.

·         Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.

·         Knowledge of educational pedagogy and learning theories.

·         Knowledge of emerging technologies, standards, and their applications to distance education.

·         Proficiency with a variety of academic technologies (hardware, software, multimedia, and web-based applications).

·         Practical knowledge of and experience with D2L Brightspace or alternative learning management system.
