Description:
The Metadata and Technical Services Specialist/Librarian will work in a team environment executing a variety of metadata and library-related tasks essential to the daily operations of the company.  The position is responsible for researching, collecting, and cataloging metadata on books, serials, e-books, etc.

George N. Atiyeh travel award for Middle East Librarianship

The George Atiyeh Prize was founded by the Middle East Librarians Association in 1999 to honor George N. Atiyeh, retired Head of the Near East Section of the Library Congress, founding member of MELA and of the Middle East Microform Project, for his many contributions to Middle East librarianship and scholarship. Dr. Atiyeh is the first and only honorary member of MELA. The George Atiyeh Prize offers financial aid to attend the annual meetings of MELA and of the Middle East Studies Association of North America (MESA).

Career Fair Prep Sessions

Please consider attending a Career Opportunities Fair Prep Session on: 
  • Tuesday, Sept. 27th 
  • Tuesday, Oct. 4th or
  • Saturday, Oct. 8th 
These sessions will provide students with the tools they need to be professional, confident and successful. All students of every level and all alumnae are welcome to attend both a prep session and the fair. 

Over 70 employers will be on-campus on Oct. 13th for the 16th Annual Career Opportunities Fair recruiting for all majors. The fair is a great chance for students to network for job and internship opportunities as well as learn more about their chosen career field.

2016 ALA BRASS Student Travel Award

Applications for the 2016 ALA BRASS Student Travel Award are being accepted until January 29, 2017.
The BRASS SimplyMap Student Travel Award is a $1250 cash award given to a student enrolled in an ALA accredited master's degree program to fund travel to and attendance at the ALA Annual Conference in Orlando, FL and a one-year membership in the Business Reference and Services Section (BRASS) of RUSA.
Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in a career as a business librarian, and a potential to be a leader in the profession as demonstrated by activities that may include (but are not limited to) coursework,  internships, jobs, special projects, and publications.


Volunteer Opportunity in Charter School Library

Discovery Charter School in Inver Grove Heights, MN is looking for assistance setting up their library. The school is new this year (2016) and does not have a budget for books or a librarian for at least the next three years. Family and friends of the school have done an amazing job pulling in donated books.

PLG Meeting Thursday, September 29, 2016

The Progressive Librarians Guild student chapter will hold a meeting next week on Thursday, September 29, 2016, 5:15-5:45 PM in RM 005, CdC. Come learn about the PLG, its activities and how to get involved, and even become an Officer. They will set future meeting dates, discuss what they've done in the past i.e. donate books, panel, continue work with East Side Freedom Library) and explore ideas for what to do in the future.

Graduate Assistantship opportunities for the Fall 2016 semester open to students currently enrolled in the St. Catherine University MLIS program.  
Working under the direction of MLIS faculty mentor, Sook Lim, the graduate assistant will have the opportunity to expand upon knowledge gained in the classroom. The graduate assistant will work closely with her on a variety of projects.

Research Fellowship in Children's Literature

The Arne Nixon Center for the Study of Children’s Literature is pleased to announce two new funded programs. With gifts from an anonymous donor, the Center will award two Research Fellowships to support scholars from outside the Fresno/Clovis area engaged in graduate-level, post-doctoral, and independent research. The Fellowships have been created in an effort to encourage innovative and robust inquiry into the varied aspects of children’s literature. Proposals will be chosen by committee and based on significance to the study of children’s literature, likelihood of publication or other dissemination of the work, and relevance of the project to the Center’s holdings. Acknowledgement of the Center in all published or otherwise disseminated material is required. Stipends up to $2000 will be awarded this fall to those who meet the given criteria. Minnesota Reading Corps Information Session October 3

Come learn about literacy tutoring for the Minnesota Reading Corp:

The Minnesota Reading Corps will be giving a presentation for MLIS students on Monday, October 3, 2016 from 5:00 to 5:45 PM, Room 019 CdC.
The Minnesota Reading Corps recruits over 1,500 volunteers a year. These volunteers work to bridge the reading gap in schools. Reading Mentors work with a child to help build an enjoyment of reading.  As a Reading Mentor, you can help boost reading skills by engaging a student who is in 1st - 5th grade by using a broad range of literacy based activities.  Working one on one with a child for just one hour a week for the school year will develop a positive mentoring relationship that can change lives.
