School Librarian with Sejong Academy

We are looking for a dedicated individual who is eager to help grow Sejong’s library program – both as a school and community resource. 

Sejong Academy is a public charter school.  The 2016-2017 school year will be our third year of operation.  We will serve grades pre-K to 8 with approximately 135 students.  We are seeking a Full Time (including benefits) school librarian.
Sejong Academy is committed to providing an academically rigorous education to pre-K to 8th grade Twin Cities students through immersion experience in Korean language and culture by using research-based curriculum, high standards for accountability and promoting an appreciation for diversity and international cultures. 
We are looking for a dedicated individual who is eager to help grow Sejong’s library program – both as a school and community resource. 
  1. Collaborate with school partners to further develop and maintain school library (identify, acquire and catalog library resources).
  2. Work collaboratively with members of Sejong Academy to define the policies of the school library program, and guide and direct all activities related to it.
  3. Plan and teach library/media specials classes one day per week (may include research projects, etc.) for grades K-8 - providing direct student instruction regarding inquiry and research, using online databases and appropriately integrated curricular resources ensuring that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information.
  4. Lead school community/ family library time/classes some days after-school and some Saturday mornings. (Flex scheduling to accommodate 40-hour work week.)
  5. Collaborate with teachers and staff to integrate information skills and technology tools across grade levels and disciplines.
  6. Encourage the use of instructional technology to engage students and to improve learning
  7. Remain current in professional practices and developments, information technology, and educational research applicable to school library programs.
  8. Educate students and staff about copyright, fair use, and ethical use of information.
  9. Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • A valid library media specialist or librarian license issued by the Minnesota Department of Education.
  • Experience in urban school setting and/or experience with low income and/or English learner populations
Preferred Qualifications
  • A master’s degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association.
  • Bilingual: Karen/English or Korean/English.
