Archivist with Community Celebration of Place

Archivist Needed for Larry Long Archives Project:
Community Celebration of Place (501 C3) is the recipient of a Cultural Legacy grant from the Minnesota Historical Society to create an archive of an extensive collection of materials that documents the lifetime work Larry Long.  
The grant provides funds to pay an archivist $6,000 for 375 hours of work at $16/hour, spread over 30 weeks at 12.5 hours/week, from July 11 to February 6, 2017 (the total number of hours and rate of pay per hour are firm, but the actual weeks worked and time spent per week are negotiable).

Spatial Data Analyst & Curator with U of MN

The University of Minnesota Libraries and U-Spatial ( seek a knowledgeable and proactive Spatial Data Analyst & Curator to advance the Libraries’ efforts in the areas of geospatial projects, geospatial data curation and management, and digital spatial humanities. Residing in the John R. Borchert Map Library, the Spatial Data Analyst & Curator works under the management and direction of the University Libraries, which holds institutional responsibility for supporting the products and processes of scholarship through the collection, provisioning, and preservation of information resources in all formats and media. As such, the work of the Spatial Data Analyst & Curator uses a life-cycle data management approach to serve the specific needs of the spatial data creator/user community while ensuring that processes and methods employed are strongly aligned with enterprise strategies and systems. 

Required Qualifications include a Master's degree in library/information science from an American Library Association accredited library school, GIS-related field, or equivalent combination of advanced degree and relevant experience, as well as experience with geographical information systems, including/especially Esri's ArcGIS software, experience with scripting languages, such as Python or JavaScript, and experience with metadata creation, schema, and management.

Public Library Director - Morris, MN

Morris Public Library is seeking a Library Director. 

Summary: The Morris Public Library is a city library located in west central Minnesota with a staff of 4.40 FTE and an annual operating budget of around $330,000. Over the last several years, the library staff has worked to expand programming, especially for children and teens, and added materials and programs for the community’s growing Spanish-speaking population. The library has many strong community partnerships, including one with the local farmer’s market, which is hosted on the library lawn throughout the summer. The Morris Public Library is open 54 hours per week, has 66,000 circulating items, and has an annual circulation of more than 114,000 items. The library is also part of the Viking Library System Horizon ILS with Enterprise as the discovery layer. The Library Board of Directors is in the early stages of looking at a building renovation or expansion to make sure the library continues to serve the changing needs of the community. We are looking for a library director who can maintain the quality programming and collections we already have, while also helping shape a community library of the future.

The Association of Bookmobile & Outreach Services (ABOS), an affiliate of the American Library Association, offers annual awards that recognize outstanding service, support for conference attendance, and the education of a student currently enrolled in a Library Science degree program.  In particular, The Bernard Vavrek Scholarship provides $1000 to a library school student interested in outreach and bookmobile services.

Dr. Bernard Vavrek, Professor of Library Science and Chair of the Library Science Department at Clarion University, retired after teaching at Clarion from 1971-2008. He co-founded with John Philip the "Great American Bookmobile Conference," running it for many years until ABOS was formed and took over management of the conference.  This scholarship honors Dr. Vavrek's profound commitment to librarianship.

This year's ABOS annual conference will take place at the Marriott RiverCenter in Covington, KY from October 19-21. Please share information about our scholarship, awards and conference with your students and faculty.  Information can be found at our website

National Digital Stewardship Residence Program (NDSR) accepting applications

The NDSR program is a field experience opportunity developed by the Library of Congress and the Institute of Museum and Library Services open to recent masters and doctoral graduates interested in digital stewardship, who have graduated from an accredited degree-granting program between summer 2014 and summer 2016. Research Assistant opportunity

A  research assistant with skills, experience, or an educational interest in archiving/cataloguing, transcription, project logistics/scheduling, and interviewing is need to advance this important work.  The ideal candidate will have a clear passion for African American history. The research assistant will receive a stipend of $1300 and up to $300 for travel or other related project expenses.
The goal of this project is to document and share the life and accomplishments of Josie R. Johnson as an educator, civil rights activist and public servant.  This autobiographical project will present the story of Josie R. Johnson’s life as a model of African American and women’s leadership and will illustrate her contributions to the advancement of civil and human rights at the University of Minnesota and within the state of Minnesota.
