TCART Student Scholarship Award

Twin Cities Archives Roundtable (TCART) student members are encouraged to apply for TCART's Student Scholarship Award. Award winners are granted up to $250. This award supports current student members of the Twin Cites Archives Round Table who are enrolled in a Libraries or Archives Certification program. The goal of the scholarship is to stimulate greater participation in professional associations and to provide educational opportunities. Applications are due Oct 1, 2015. HCL Cataloging & Database Maintenance Internship

Opening Date: 7/21/15
Location: Hennepin County Library - Ridgedale, 12601 Ridgedale Drive, Minnetonka, MN

The Cataloging Section at Hennepin County Library (HCL) provides centralized cataloging for the 41 HCL libraries. We use OCLC Connection and Library of Congress electronic tools.  We apply MARC, RDA, AACR2, LSCH and LCC standards in our cataloging. Our ILS is Horizon from the Siri/Dynix Company.

This unpaid internship is for 80-120 hours from Sept. 8 – Dec. 18. Available hours are Monday – Friday, from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. for a minimum of 8 hours per week. This internship can be used for college credit or work experience.

Information Services Internship: Hennepin County Library (HCL)

Hennepin County Library is accepting applications for an intern with Information Programs and Services. This unpaid internship takes place from September to December 2015, 8-16 hours per week. Opening: Branch Librarian, Warroad Public Library, Northwest Regional Library

Deadline coming soon: Northwest Regional Library has an opening for a Branch Librarian at the Warroad Public Library. This position is responsible for overseeing the operations and staff of the library in accordance with the NWRL system’s policies and procedures; planning, coordinating and implementing library programs/events within the branch; overseeing and providing direct customer service activities to patrons of the library.

Candidates for this position should have a working knowledge of library organization, library technologies and applications, and computer literacy.

This position is 40 hours per week, some evenings and Saturdays required. Starting pay of $17.07-18.39 per hour with benefits. 4-year college degree, with MLIS and library experience preferred.

Fall 2015 MLIS Social Hours

To celebrate the beginning of the semester, the MLIS Program and Student Governance Organization invite students to join us during the MLIS Social Hours.

Come for treats and a great chance to mingle with fellow students right before classes start. The social hours will be outside of classroom, CdC 17 in the MLIS hallway.

All MLIS students are welcome each night.

Call for Proposal: Fourth Annual Minnesota Archives Symposium

The Twin Cities Archives Round Table is pleased to announce the fourth annual Minnesota Archives Symposium (MAS), sponsored by the Minnesota Historical Society. The Symposium will be held on Monday, November 2, 2015. Deadline for proposals is Monday, August 31, 2015.

MAS is a local educational and networking opportunity for archivists, librarians, records managers, curators and other information professionals. The symposium organizers are seeking session proposals for the topic: "Bridging the Gap Between Our Digital and Physical Collections. Both novices and experts are encouraged to submit session proposals.

MN State Fair Alphabet Forest Volunteers Needed!

Interested in volunteering and promoting literacy at the MN State Fair Alphabet Forest?

Sign up online here or for a shift on one of the 12 fair days.  Each volunteer will receive an admission ticket for the day they volunteer.  Information on the shifts and activities involved are found on the link above.

Step inside the Alphabet Forest and discover alphabet activities for all ages. Take pictures with Fair Letters, create alphabet Ferris wheels, add your fair words to the Fair Dictionary and more! Guests can meet a different author each day in the Alphabet Forest at the Blue Ribbon Homegrown Author Showcase. Our volunteers are essential to making the Alphabet Forest a favored destination for children and families at the fair.

Volunteer Shift Times:
  • 8:45 a.m. to noon
  • 11:45 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • 2:45-6 p.m.
  • 5:45-8:30 p.m.

Fall 2015 MLIS Program Schedule Update

Additional Classes:
Another section of LIS 7040 has been added to the Fall 2015 schedule.  It will meet on Saturdays 1-5pm with Dr. Joyce Yukawa.  CRN 15211.

If you had planned to take the Practicum this fall but weren't able to register, contact Dr. Sheri Ross as another section has been added to each of the Practicum courses. LIS 7992 G02 CRN 15212 and IS 7993 G02 CRN 15213.

LIS 7380 G01 CRN 14960 Older Adults and the Web has been cancelled.

Fall 2015 syllabi should be posted in D2L on August 26; classes start on Wednesday, September 9.

Social Hour:
You are invited to attend the MLIS Social Hours on Wednesday and Thursday, September 9-10 from 5-6pm and Friday, September 11 from 4-5pm, just outside of CdC 17 in the MLIS Hallway. Come for treats, mingling and networking before class starts. MLIS Students are welcome each night.

Orientation for New Students:
MLIS students who started the program summer 2015 OR who will start the program fall 2015 are invited to attend Orientation on Saturday, August 29.  Welcome to you all!

The Research Systems & Services (RS&S) Clerk assists in maintaining the Firm's collections of print, serials, and online research resources. This includes filing loose­leaf services, responding to copy requests, reshelving books, routing of periodicals and processing the mail. The RS&S Clerk will also participate in various projects as assigned. There is no direct supervisory responsibility associated with this position.


  • High School Graduate. 
  • 1­-3 years of clerical and filing experience preferred. 
  • Knowledge of Integrated Library System is a plus.

Library Assistant at Cretin-Derham Hall

Cretin-Derham Hall is a Catholic coeducational high school serving 1300 students in grades 9 - 12.   CDH is cosponsored by the Brothers of the Christian Schools and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.  CDH is located in the heart of the Highland Park and Macalester-Groveland neighborhoods of the city of Saint Paul.  Students come from all over Saint Paul as well as the south, east and north suburbs of the Twin Cities.

The Library Assistant supports the patrons (students, staff, & faculty),the two library media specialists and a full time assistant, helping to create a positive and learner-centered environment.  Primary responsibilities include student supervision, administrative support for the library, and support for students and teachers in accessing information. 

This is a part time, support staff position without benefits.  The work schedule follows that of the school's academic calendar.   Regular hours are 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. $12 per hour, no benefits.

Part-Time Late Night Circulation/Reference Supervisor, University of St. Thomas

The University of St. Thomas invites applications for a Part-Time Late Night Circulation/Reference Supervisor.
This position exists to provide high-quality access to research services, academic resources, and spaces for students, faculty and staff to do group and individual work particularly during the late night hours of library operation.  Library circulation staff is responsible for opening and closing the library, assisting library users, implementing and interpreting library policies, supervising student workers, maintaining the library's patron and inventory database, circulating and maintaining the library's collections. During many of the hours that the person in this position works, he or she is the only library staff present in the building.
This position is part-time, nine months, and the schedule is 9:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.  When available, additional shifts could be worked for extra hours.
