Minimum/Essential Qualifications:

Two positions, Anchorage Public Library (Alaska)

Anchorage Public Library is recruiting for two positions supervising library branches. Both positions are full time with benefits. They are both open continuously with the next review of candidates on Monday, July 13th.

Anchorage Public Library is the largest public library in the state of Alaska. We have five branches and serve 300,000 people over a physical area the size of the State of Delaware. We are working on redefining ourselves as a system, especially focusing on technology and on early literacy. We are looking for people who can lead change within their location and contribute to our growth as a system. As a city Anchorage is home to the most diverse census tract in the United States. Our school district has students who speak over 90 languages. Throughout the city are trails perfect for hiking, walking, biking, and cross country skiing. Salmon fill our rivers and can even be caught in creeks in downtown Anchorage! There is no better place to live for a globally diverse community with pristine wilderness merely a hop away.

Our library in Girdwood is seeking a branch supervisor to head up a staff of four people. Girdwood is a small enclave in the south half of Anchorage with a close knit funky vibe. Do you love to ski? You will be living at the base of a fantastic ski mountain and able to enjoy year round access to trails for hiking, biking, and more. Position does not require an MLS. We are looking for a candidate with a Bachelor's in Library Science or four plus years of experience working in public libraries. This position is responsible for all youth programming in addition to supervising the branch.

The Muldoon Library needs a branch manager to head up a staff of five people in one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Anchorage. Sharing a facility with a Boys and Girls club, this branch vibrates with activity and is heavily used by all age ranges. Staff here is highly motivated and has created many innovative programs. This position requires an MLS and 2 years of professional library work.

Part-time Reference Librarian, Concordia University (St. Paul)

Concordia University, St. Paul is looking for a few good part-time reference librarians to provide reference service to Concordia students, faculty and staff during evenings and weekends. Evening and weekend reference service is provided by a small group of part-time librarians who also supervise student workers and the library facility. Part-time reference librarians may be called on to assist library staff with other special projects as time allows.

During Fall and Spring Semester, there are shifts Monday-Thursday from 4-8 PM, Saturday from 12-5 PM, and Sunday from 4-8 PM. During Summer Semester, there are shifts Monday-Thursday from 3:00-6:30 and Saturday from 10-2 PM. During breaks and holidays, there will be fewer shifts available because of reduced hours.

The University of Minnesota Libraries seeks applicants for a Library Associate 3 position in the E-Resource Management Unit. This position consists primarily of three areas of responsibility that includes the acquisition and management of e-resources, providing licensing assistance to the ERM Unit, and acting as an expert resource to unit and department staff as well as other University Libraries staff.
 
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of related experience; or a combination of related education and work experience to equal eight (8) years.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experienced with integrated library systems, in particular Aleph or Alma;
  • Proven knowledge in the area of e-resource acquisitions and/or e-resource management
  • Skilled in the data gathering, manipulation and analysis using tools such as Microsoft Excel or Access
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and creativity, with an ability to utilize past experience and available data to assess, test and resolve technical problems.
  • Forward thinking with strong collaborative instincts and a systems perspective.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced team environment, while relating to and interacting with staff and patrons outside the unit or library
  • Proven familiarity with licensing contracts
  • Self-starter who can innovate in a dynamic and collaborative environment
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to change in a fast paced information resources environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize work with multiple data points/sources, large documents or files.

Duties and Responsibilities: The University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign seeks an innovative and experienced professional to serve in the position of Metadata Services Specialist. This is an academic professional position for an individual with a master’s degree in library or information science, preferably with at least two years of metadata experience. Reporting to the metadata librarian and metadata team leader within the Content Access Management Unit, this position will primarily support metadata creation and management of digital collections, with duties extending to the Library’s other metadata services.  The Metadata Services Specialist will develop and establish efficient metadata workflows and maintain high standards of quality for metadata production and management of digital collections to support discovery and access, and contribute to the long-term stewardship of the Library’s rich digital collections.

Systems and Discovery Librarian

South Dakota State University seeks an innovative, service-oriented individual for the position of Systems and Discovery Librarian. The successful candidate will provide support for existing library systems and lead the configuration, integration, and maintenance of new systems and discovery solutions. The Systems and Discovery Librarian will collaborate with all library staff to enhance users' ability to identify, retrieve, and use library resources and to provide excellent library services to the SDSU community.

This 12-month librarian position reports to the Head of Technical Services, participates in professional activity, provides reference assistance, and serves on library and university committees. MLA 2015 Conference: MLF Silent Auction Item Donations Sought

MLIS Alum Erica Ross and current MLIS student Allison Current are coordinating the Minnesota Library Foundation's Silent Auction for the MLA 2015 Conference in St. Paul, MN. The conference will be taking place at the River Center on October 8-9, 2015.

Archives and Special Collections Metadata Librarian UMN-TC

The University of Minnesota Libraries seeks an energetic, innovative, service-oriented and collaborative professional to serve as Archives and Special Collections Metadata Librarian. The ideal candidate provides intellectual access for materials held in the various units of the Archives and Special Collections Department and in digital repositories, by performing original and complex copy cataloging using descriptive standards such as Resource Description and Access (RDA), Descriptive Cataloging of Rare Materials (DCRM), and Describing Archives: a Content Standard (DACS), and utilizing a variety of encoding standards such as MARC, Dublin Core, MODS and Encoded Archival Description (EAD). Metadata librarians work with the Head of Cataloging and Metadata Services in coordinating metadata projects, training and mentoring support staff within the unit, and writing documentation. The position may also assist with high priority original cataloging for the general collections, particularly serial materials, as needed. The librarian will also contribute to the profession through research, publication, and professional engagement, as he or she works toward continuous appointment status. This position reports to the Head of Cataloging and Metadata Services in the Data Management & Access Department.

Required Qualifications include an American Library Association accredited Master’s degree in Library/Information Science or equivalent combination of advanced degree and relevant experience, and one to three years original cataloging experience, applying current standards and systems including AACR2, RDA, Library of Congress Classification, Library of Congress Subject Headings, and OCLC Connexion and library management and discovery systems.
