Law Library Consultants, Inc. is a full service business providing consulting, management/maintenance, research and placement services for law firm and corporate law libraries in the 7 county metro area for over 28 years. During that time, LLC has placed many St. Kate MLIS students and graduates in full-time and part-time jobs.

POSITION: Library Assistant in Bloomington law firm. This paraprofessional
position is a great opportunity to experience the internal workings of a busy law firm library.

DUTIES: Technical services include acquisitions, cataloging, and processing of books and serials. Administrative duties include mail and invoice processing, routing, and 2 hours/wk of loose-leaf filing and general collection maintenance. Assists with library budget and reporting.

SKILLS and EXPERIENCE: Familiar with legal print and online resources, have computer skills and an eye for detail and accuracy. Knowledge of EOS ILS and Onelog software a plus.

HOURS: 25-30 hours/wk, beginning at 8 or 8:30 am, M-F

COMPENSATION: Beginning at $18/hour. Increase DOE.

2015 Library Technology Conference Scholarships

A limited number of scholarship opportunities are being offered for persons who wish to attend the 2015 Library Technology Conference. Details of these scholarships are provided below.
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: All scholarship applications must be received no later than Monday, December 1, 2014. Applications received after this date will not be considered.

Rural Library or School Media Center Scholarships

The Library Technology Conference will be awarding up to 10 scholarships to staff members from libraries and school media centers in smaller/rural communities who wish to attend the 2015 Lib Tech Conference. The goal of these scholarships is to promote library technology proficiency and awareness through attendance at the conference. Each scholarship will cover conference registration (either single day or full 2-day registration fees), as well as one night lodging at one of the conference hotels for those travelling to the conference from outside the 7-county Twin Cities metro area.
Scholarship criteria: Any staff who currently works in a library or school media center in a city, town, or municipality with a population under 30,000 is welcome to apply. Special consideration will be given to persons who will be attending the Library Technology Conference for the first time and those from outside the 7-county Twin Cities metro area. Selection will largely be based on the brief (up to 300 words) statement of the expected benefits that the applicant will receive from conference attendance.

St. Kate’s SLA Student Group Silent Auction Call for Items

On Monday, December 8, 2014, the St. Kate's Special Library Association Student Group will be hosting a Silent Auction fundraiser at the SLA Holiday Party to raise funds for a scholarship to help send a St. Kate's MLIS student to the 2015 SLA Annual Conference in Boston.

We need your help with donations!

  • Hand-crafted items - jewelry, purses, scarves, quilt
  • Gift baskets - wine/liquor, bath items, BBQ tools
  • Tickets to sporting or cultural events - MN Wild, MN Twins, Guthrie

The Position
Information Programs and Services coordinate information and reference services provided in library buildings, online, and in the community. We work with services to readers of all ages. Our services include reference and information, digital literacy, and web content.

This unpaid internship takes place from January – May 2015, 8 - 16 hours per week. It can be used for college credit or work experience.

MLIS Spring 2015 and J-Term 2015 Registration Begins 11-17-14

Registration for J-Term 2015Spring 2015 begins November 17, 2014 at 6am for those with 23 or more credits; November 18 for those with 10-22 credits; and November 19 for those with 0-9 credits. 

Register using the online registration system via Kateway. Check courses prerequisites and take care of any holds before signing up for classes.

Course Dates: J-Term: January 5 - 31, 2015 & Spring: February 2 - May 22, 2015.

POSTPONED: A Day in the Life: Panel with Recent Graduates in Non-Traditional Libraries

NOTE: The event for tonight has been postponed due to the weather.

On Monday, November 10th, please join the St. Kate’s ALASC and SLA student groups to hear a panel of recent St. Kate's alumni talk about their work in special libraries and non-traditional fields. They will share how they found their current positions, what a typical day involves for them, and which of their student experiences benefited them most as they entered the job market. Panelists include:

North Memorial Medical Library Internship

The North Memorial Medical Library would like to offer a Library Science student the opportunity to gain exposure to the field of medical librarianship.

About North Memorial:

North Memorial is a Level I Trauma Center located in Robbinsdale, Minnesota.  North Memorial’s Medical Library is staffed by a part-time professional librarian and a part-time technician.  The Library’s goal is to provide Library users e.g. physicians and clinicians valuable information to assist in their work of patient care.

Internship Details:
POSITION:                 Library Internship, unpaid
HOURS:                     Predominately would occur on Wednesdays
Time and length of shift would be flexible and negotiable

DUTIES:                     Internship duties would include, but not be limited to:
        • Check in and process new materials e.g. books and journals
        • Shelve books and journals
        • Process Inter-Library loan requests
        • Locate, copy, and distribute articles for Library users
        • Send out overdue notices for checked-out materials
        • Inventory physical collections
        • Shift and weed collections as directed
        • Update holdings
        • Assist with cleanliness and orderliness of library space
        • Keep printers stocked with paper and toner
        • Order supplies as directed
        • Other duties as assigned

Law Library Technical Services Coordinator

Immediate opening for Bloomington law firm library technical services position.

DUTIES:  Acquisitions, ordering, cataloging, and processing of books and other library materials, using the automated functions of the library’s integrated library system. Administrative duties include mail and invoice processing, routing, and 2-3 hours/wk  of loose-leaf filing and general collection maintenance. Assists with library budget and reporting.

SKILLS and EXPERIENCE: Familiar with legal print and online resources. Technical services experience including cataloging, acquisitions, print serials. Knowledge of EOS ILS and Onelog a plus.

HOURS:  25-30 hours/wk
